Jagrani 36. of Bundlekhand in MP, the wife of a marginal farmer, has given birth to her 16th child. The attending doctor said the mother is anaemic and the infant is underweight.
Jagrani’s oldest daughter is 18 years of age. She and two other daughters and six sons have survived. 2 sons and four daughters died after birth.
A right to food activist said this should prompt the government to consider why its Family Planning scheme and Malnutrition scheme are not reaching remote areas of the state.
The mother and father however say their children are a gift from God and she refuses to undergo a family planning operation as she is too weak. She also said she would not have another baby.
