Court directs cops to return bribe amount with interest!

Sonepat| In a unique ruling, Sonepat Court has ordered policemen to return the amount of Rs.30,000 which they took it as a bribe with 9 percent interest to the murder suspect.

Mukesh Kumar was arrested on a murder charges in 1998 by Officer Gulshan Rai and assistant sub inspector Ramkumar. Mukesh asked not to torture him during interrogation for which officers demanded amount of Rs.30,000. Mukesh agreed to pay the amount but despite that he was tortured. Mukesh was discharged later and he filed a civil suit against the police officers. In a surprise verdict, Sonepat civil court ordered police officers Gulshan Rai and Ramkumar Rao to repay the amount of bribe with 9 percent interest on the principal.

It’s a different matter that officer Rao is already dead and Rai is now retired from his services.
