A 12-year old cancer patient gets HIV infection during treatment

New Delhi | In a shocking case, a 12-year old Delhi boy who was undergoing treatment for blood cancer has been tested positive for HIV virus.

Deepak, a 12-year old cancer patient was undergoing treatment at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Delhi for two years but suddenly in December, his condition started deteriorating after a blood transfusion at the hospital. When parents took Deepak to the hospital, they were shocked with his HIV positive report.

Deepak’s father Tilak Ram, a smaill-time painter claimed that he has not got his son treated anywhere else and it all happened due to blood transfusion at GTB hospital.

However, hospital staff is denying his claims and said that it is difficult to ascertain that where the boy contracted the infection as Deepak was undergoing chemotherapy at some other hospital.

Now,  Deepak’s blood has been sent to G B Pant hospital for re-test and his parents are waiting for the reports to file the case against GTB hospital.
